Self Tape Essentials
IPHONE:
We film these youtube videos on an iphone 12 pro or iphone . Although I’ll be upgrading the phone to an iphon 14 soon, we’re pretty happy with the picture quality. Here’s a link to the iphones I’m considering:
TRIPOD:
We love the tripod we recently purchased. It works super well with the iphone and if you’re filming your self-taped auditions with your phone, it’ll work great for you too. It’s the UURIG TP-02 Extendable Phone Tripod,51″ Selfie Stick Phone Vlog Tripod Stand with 2 in 1 Phone Clip…:
MICROPHONE:
The microphone we use for the youtube videos is a super easy plug and play mic that just plugs into the phone itself. It’s great for situations where you are pretty close to the device. We love how easy it is! It’s the Shure MV88 Portable iOS Microphone for iPhone/iPad/iPod via Lightning Connector…
I’ll make some microphone recommendations for self-taped audition use in the future.
LIGHTS:

You can also just by one box light – which may work fine for your self-taped auditions in many cases:
Some people love ring lights. I’m not a big fan because they often give actors a circle reflection in their irises or glasses – but they are portable, easy to use and do give a nice even light on the face. You can also bounce the ring light against a wall to create a nice wash of light on you. This is a good option if you want to get a ring light:
